We’ve got some ambitious growth plans and we’re looking for talented software developers to join our team.


    We need someone with a strong background in PHP and databases who can help us build and support data-intensive web applications for Ricardo Energy & Environment’s public and private sector clients.  The successful candidate will be adept at working as part of a team on a portfolio of projects, both supporting and enhancing existing applications as well as creating new ones. 


    Our ideal candidate will have strong software development skills, excellent organisational skills and be an enthusiastic contributor to our team.


    Essential Experience:

    • Extensive experience building PHP software and web applications in a commercial environment using a well-known MVC framework (eg Zend or Symfony)
    • Designing MySQL and/or PostGres databases and writing scalable and secure code to handle large data sets
    • Using versioning systems (Git), task, test and release management tools
    • Working collaboratively with software and non-software professionals


    Desirable Experience:

    • Drupal, SilverStripe, LimeSurvey
    • R, R Shiny, Perl
    • XML, Schematron, RDF, XPath, XSLT
    • Web Map Service, Web Feature Service
    • Mentoring or training experience
    • Commercial product development
    • Agile development processes


    Personal Attributes:

    • Well organised, with the ability to accurately estimate and deliver high quality work and track their time
    • A good team player who is happy to accept and provide guidance and instruction, with good face-to-face communication skills
    • Interested and able to learn and apply new technologies
    • Good customer and commercial awareness



    • IT or computer science degree is desirable
