Senior Technical Consultant – Biomass and Biomass Utilisation

During this time we established the national Biomass Programme which underpinned the development of biomass energy in the UK.  We continue to build on this experience to support the public sector with its policy development, often providing the evidence base on which new policy is developed.  We also are increasingly working with the private sector to develop commercially viable biomass projects that are at the core of the process of decarbonising the UK economy.



    Role purpose:

    The role will provide support to meet an increasing demand from Government and Industry in the UK for expertise in assessing biomass supply and use, in terms of their technical and economic performance, assessing the policy opportunities for encouraging the uptake of Biomass including advanced conversion, anaerobic digestion, direct combustion and biomass supply issues.


    Successful candidates will demonstrate the following skills:

    • Good understanding of biomass supply and use
    • Strong engineering experience
    • Flexibility and team working
    • Good problem solving skills
    • Strong influencing skills
    • The ability to work to commercial imperatives
    • Good analytical/modelling skills


    The Person:

    • A mechanical, processes or chemical engineer with the technical knowledge of biomass supply and use
    • An understanding of government policies relating to biomass, CHP, heat markets and associated district heating and cooling networks
    • Significant experience of working in a consultancy or an evaluation team at a utilities company
    • Have an understanding of biomass applications
    • In addition, you will demonstrate good attention to detail, technical report writing ability and be able to assimilate information quickly
