    Ricardo Energy & Environment’s Resource Efficiency and Waste Management practice provides a wide range of consultancy services to the waste management industry. We have evolved significantly over the past decade from our public sector heritage into a leading technical advisor to private sector developers, operators, lenders, investors and legal advisors, in addition to procuring authorities.

    One of our service areas is technical and market due diligence which encompasses owner’s engineer and lenders technical advisor provision to developers and investors in the waste and waste to energy sectors. We require a project/process engineer with a proven track record in the EPC environment and/or experience as an owner’s engineer on waste to energy infrastructure projects. 

    The role will cover the full range of waste treatment, recovery and energy from waste technologies and the candidate should have a successful background in delivering good project management, commercial and technical support to infrastructure projects. Candidates will be expected to support the expansion of Ricardo’s site based supervision roles and delivery and the mentoring of junior engineers.

    Depending on their experience, the successful candidate will also be involved in other work that makes the most of their expertise and experience, including supporting the procurement of waste infrastructure for public and private sector clients, providing expert opinion in relation to the performance of waste treatment facilities in commercial disputes and insurance claims, and supporting UK and international reviews of markets and technologies.

    Key accountabilities:

    • reporting to the Business Area Manager for due diligence and expert witness services, under the direction of the Practice Director;
    • able to lead the project management, technical and commercial support to external clients on waste infrastructure projects;
    • able to lead technical due diligence studies and manage complex technical studies and reporting to a Project Director on a project-by-project basis;
    • helping to shape the direction of the business area and qualifying opportunities in the UK and internationally;
    • represent Ricardo’s culture and ethos in the delivery of safety, health and environment management;
    • supporting business development and preparing high quality proposals; and
    • deployment targets would be set for each reporting year.

    Key competencies and experience:

    • experienced project manager with evidence based application of project management principles;
    • excellent engineer with broad technical capabilities; wider knowledge and experience in electrical, controls and instrumentation an advantage;
    • good commercial acumen with experience of different forms of contract;
    • previous involvement and experience in large and complex engineering projects;
    • sound understanding of the requirements for planning and environmental permitting;
    • able to critically analyse construction and technical engineering matters to bring them to conclusion;
    • experienced in delivering due diligence assessments for any of developers, lenders, intermediaries or procuring authorities;
    • excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail and desire to deliver to the highest standards for all outputs whether written, presentational, or delivery, and conversed in chairing technical and non-technical meetings;
    • able to write clear, concise and accurate technical reports; and
    • experience in identifying and developing waste and waste to energy sector opportunities and client relationships a further advantage;
