    Within Ricardo Energy & Environment, the Energy Practice's team consists of 45 consultants who are highly experienced professionals specialising in techno-economic and management consultancy services for the energy sector, with particular emphasis on the power sector, renewable energy, Combined Heat and Power, electricity networks and other energy projects. The strength of the Energy Practice is our ability to combine strategic, financial/economic and technical advice as an integrated consultancy service to public and private sector clients. Our team of energy consultants are qualified in a range of commercial, engineering, economic and financial disciplines. Most of our assignments draw on expertise in several of these areas. In addition to the core team we can draw on a wide range of energy specialist associates, with whom we have long-standing working relationships.

    We are undertaking increasing amounts of renewable energy work that require deeper expertise in the development of renewable energy projects, in the UK and overseas.  Examples include: Technical support for community energy projects and programmes, assessment of commercial potential for onshore wind and hydro, development of smart solutions for grid connection and technical and commercial due diligence.  To support our expansion we need to recruit a consultant who can bring practical insight, renewable energy technical knowledge and experience to complement our team.


    To technically lead, project manage and deliver consultancy projects that provide technical advice for community energy projects and programmes investigating and developing community scale and commercial scale renewable energy projects specifically onshore wind and hydro. 

    Key competencies and experience

    The successful individual will be a key member in the management and delivery of Community renewable energy project work for clients, as well as contributing to winning renewable energy consultancy projects from public and private sector customers.  The focus is to serve our client base in Scotland, hence the job is based in our office in central Glasgow.

    Understanding of, and experience in both technical and project development in one or more of the following renewable technologies, onshore wind and hydro. In addition experience will include: Technical and commercial experience with local energy systems (smart grid, private wire, ANM and energy storage).  Experience in energy innovation studies, including local energy supply, private wire and experience in local energy master plans would be beneficial.   The candidate also needs to be able to support in the development of propositions appropriate to a wide range of customers, and deliver successful proposals to new clients. In particular, the need to be enthusiastic, articulate, personable, and driven to engage and win new customers.



    Skills and behaviours

    Successful candidates will demonstrate several of the following:

    • Strong project management experience
    • Extensive experience of leading teams
    • Detailed experience of developing and construction of onshore wind and hydro projects in the 50kW to 10MW range
    • Experience of renewable energy development processes (resource assessment, technical and financial feasibility, project development (planning, grid, EPC contracts)
    • Analytical skills with ability to identify, develop and implement business improvement solutions
    • Providing advice to clients, private sector and community organisations
    • Insight into the supply chain for goods and services
    • Business development (following leads and development of successful proposals) and client management skills
    • Strong communication skills
    • The ability to develop and deliver project plans and programmes from inception to completion
    • Ability to disseminate knowledge to other members of the team


    Qualification & experience

    Candidates will have an Engineering or Science, qualification/background with practical career experience and a focus on delivering a selection of the following:

    • Practical project development experience on one or more of:
    • Onshore Wind single and small clusters of turbines: technology, site and project issues, use of tools (WASP, Windfarmer etc)
    • Hydro, site and project issues, use of tools (LowFlows etc)
    • Delivery of the above in the UK

    Desirable experience includes:

    • Work on other types of renewable energy technology
    • Membership of a relevant technical body
